Protocol CAL-SHC-001  •  Specific Heat Capacity Analysis

Welcome to the Materials Characterization Division. Unknown metal samples have arrived from procurement and must be identified before entering the production pipeline.

Use constant-pressure calorimetry to measure specific heat capacity, then cross-reference the result against our materials database to identify each sample.

► Standard Operating Procedure
  1. Drag the metal sample onto the analytical balance to record mass
  2. Note initial temperatures — sample is preheated to 100.0 °C
  3. Transfer sample to calorimeter — read final equilibrium temperature
  4. Calculate: c = (mw·4.18·ΔTw) / (ms·ΔTs)
  5. Round to 2 decimal places and identify the metal from the database
  6. One incorrect analysis terminates the session
