How to use the bench (mouse, touch, or keyboard)
- Run time: Play runs the seasons; each season is one generation, in four phases: Census, Breed, Forage and Hunt. +1 gen runs just one. Skip jumps forward without the animation (it stops wherever your lab needs a census).
- Change the environment: use the sliders and event buttons on the right at any time, even while it runs. Point at a slider (or tab to it) to see what it does. Each change shows as a mark on the graph.
- Look closer: click or tap any animal to see its genes and its parents. Follow zooms in on it; Esc zooms back out.
- Collect data: press 🔍 Census and the sim counts every animal for you. Each census goes into your Field Notebook (Data tab).
- Be the predator: hunt for 20 seconds yourself. Click (or tap) animals; with the keyboard, arrow keys aim and Space strikes.
- Keys: Space play / pause · → one generation · C census · R reset · H help.
