Terms of Use
1. The service
The Lab Games is a free set of science simulations, labs and review games. Everything works without an account. An account adds saved progress, classes and leaderboards.
2. Who can have an account
- You must be 13 or older to create an account. Anyone can use the site without one.
- Anyone 13 or older can choose a Learner or a Teacher account. Teacher accounts sign in with Google.
- One account per person. Don't share your account or sign in as someone else.
3. Usernames
- Your username is shown publicly on leaderboards. Don't use your real name or anything that identifies you (no phone numbers, student IDs, emails or links).
- Usernames are permanent: you can't change yours after you confirm it.
- Every username goes through a strict filter. Names that are rude, hateful, sexual, violent, about drugs, or that pretend to be staff (for example “admin” or “teacher”) are refused. The filter is strict on purpose, so it sometimes refuses harmless names; just pick another.
- Teachers can remove the username of any student in their class. Any teacher can report a username they see on a leaderboard; a reported name is hidden right away and reviewed by a site admin. Site admins can remove any username.
- A removed username can never be used again. Your scores and progress are kept, and you choose a new username the next time you sign in. After three removals, you can only choose from generated names.
4. Acceptable use
Don't:
- harass, bully or threaten anyone, or use the site to share hateful content;
- cheat: automated play, faked scores, or tampering with the site or its requests;
- try to reach other people's data or accounts, or get around security or rate limits;
- sign up as a teacher to get around a teacher's decisions, or file false reports.
Accounts that break these rules can lose teacher or reporting rights, have their username removed, or be deleted.
5. Lab Tokens and avatars
Lab Tokens are points earned only by answering questions in review games, and spent only on cartoon avatar skins. They have no cash value, can't be bought, sold or transferred, and are never sold for real money. Avatars are cosmetic only. Numbers such as prices and daily limits may change. We may reset tokens or skins gained by cheating.
6. Classes and schoolwork
Joining a class with a class code lets that teacher see your turned-in work, as described in the Privacy Policy. Grades are your teacher's decisions; The Lab Games does not grade you.
7. Removing an account
- You can delete your account at any time: Account page → Settings → Delete my account. It takes effect immediately.
- A school or district can ask us to delete its students' accounts (see the Privacy Policy).
- We may remove accounts that break these terms, and accounts unused for 24 months.
8. No warranty
The Lab Games is provided free, “as is,” without warranties of any kind. We work to keep it accurate and available, but we can't promise it will always be available, error-free, or that data will never be lost. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for damages arising from using the site.
9. Content
The sims, games, art and text on the site belong to Timothy Jackson. You own the written responses you submit, and you let us store them and show them to you, your teachers and site admins so the site can work.
Teachers may upload pictures only if they have the right to use them. To report a picture that infringes your copyright, see Copyright notices.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, and any disputes will be handled in Tulare County, California.
11. Changes
If these terms change, the new version is posted here with a new effective date.
