Teacher quick start
Five minutes from sign-in to seeing your students' work.
1. Sign in
- Open the teacher dashboard and sign in with Google.
- The first time, answer the birth month and year question, choose a username (students see it on leaderboards, so don't use your real name there), and pick Teacher.
2. Create a class and share the code
- In Classes & rosters, choose New class and give it a name and period.
- Each class gets a 6-character code with no easily confused characters (no 0, O, 1, I or L). Show it on the board.
- Choose how students join:
- Roster only: paste your roster (names, and student IDs if you want gradebook export). Students pick their name and type their ID.
- Self-join: students type their own name, and you approve each one.
- Students go to Sign in on any page, then choose Google or class code. Students with a Google account can join from their account page.
- You can regenerate a code (the old one stops working), close joining (students already on the roster can still sign in), or archive a class.
3. See progress
- Open Gradebook to see every student and activity, pick which attempt counts, and export a CSV (including a Schoology import file).
- Work a student turns in while signed in to their account appears in every class they have joined, including work done before they joined.
- You only ever see students who joined your classes with your code.
4. Usernames
Remove a student's username
In a class roster, the Account column shows each student's username. If they sign in with Google, it also shows their Google name and email, so you can tell who is who. Select Remove username. The name is blocked forever, and the student keeps every score and chooses a new name at their next sign-in. After three removals, a student can only pick generated names.
Report a username on a leaderboard
On any game leaderboard, signed-in teachers see a Report button next to each username. A reported name is hidden from all leaderboards immediately, and a site admin reviews it. Reports aren't instant deletions because anyone can choose the Teacher role, and every report records who filed it.
5. If students are blocked
- If a student's school Google account is blocked, your district needs to approve the app. Send your IT team the ready-made email, or the IT admin guide.
- Meanwhile, students can sign in with your class code and their student ID, or use every sim and game signed out.
- Students under 13 can't create accounts, but can use everything signed out. If you rostered them, their class turn-ins still reach you through the class code.
